Trey Lance of the 49ers delivers an 80-yard touchdown pass in his preseason debut against the Chiefs.

On the second series of his preseason debut against the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers rookie Trey Lance threw an 80-yard touchdown throw.
Lance, who took over after Jimmy Garoppolo was benched for one series, went three-and-out on his first possession.
Lance rolled left to start the second drive on the 49ers’ 20-yard line before lofting a deep pass down the center of the field to Trent Sherfield, who caught it inside the Chiefs’ 45-yard line and ran the rest of the way for the touchdown.
He completed 5-of-14 passes for 128 yards in his debut.
Lance was sacked four times during his career.
Lance was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the 49ers.
North Dakota State is the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft in 2021.
On his lone drive, Garoppolo completed all three of his pass attempts for 26 yards and a punt.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was ‘floored’ by the Dolphins’ decision to bench him in favor of Tua Tagovailoa.

According to Allen Eyestone of Imagn Content Services, Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was “floored” last season after he was supplanted as Miami’s starting quarterback by Tua Tagovailoa.
Fitzpatrick, 38, made 20 starts for the Dolphins from 2019 to 2020, leading the team to a 4-3 record in his first season as a starter.
Nevertheless, during Miami’s bye week in late October, head coach Brian Flores informed Fitzpatrick that Tagovailoa would take over as the team’s quarterback.
Fitzpatrick told The Athletic’s Robert Mays, “I have a lot of respect for [Flores] and we have a really good connection.”
“But, I initially mistook it for a joke.”
‘Are you going to put Tua in?
“That was my team,” says the narrator.
With those men, I fought through the nonsense.
I understand how the NFL operates.
But to have it happen the way it did,” Tagovailoa said. Tagovailoa had a strong first season, going 6-3 with 11 touchdowns in nine starts.
After being benched in October, Fitzpatrick made three relief appearances, including a 182-yard effort in a comeback win against the Raiders in late December.
Despite his 2020 benching, Fitzpatrick isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
In September, the 16-year veteran will start for the Washington Redskins, marking his eighth team in one of the league’s most impressive journeyman careers.
Perhaps there’s still some Fitzmagic left in the Harvard product as he enters Year 17.

On ‘Highway 63,’ Gene Upshaw opened the way for the Raiders at No. 67.

The Athletics’ initiative to select the 100 greatest players in football history is known as the NFL 100.
We’ll reveal new members of the list every day until the season starts, starting with the No.
In September, one player will be proclaimed champion.
8.The Raiders rode Highway 63 to the top of the NFL in their prime. “Highway 63,” as Raiders running back Mark van Eeghen affectionately dubbed left guard Gene Upshaw, would lead the defenders around the edge with Upshaw’s silver-and-black No.
“It’s kind of great when you turn the corner and you look into that defensive back’s face and he looks a little afraid,” Upshaw once said, “because he has 260 pounds going right at him.”
“Just as the ball was about to be snapped, (defensive tackle) Joe Greene leapt up from the other side and ran over to our side.”
‘They’re coming right here, these sons of bitches, they’re coming right here!’ Joe exclaimed.
Snake (Kenny Stabler) is going to audible out of this play because the right side is suddenly wide open, so I’m sitting there in my stance thinking that.
Even the linebacker shifted his weight to our side.
On that side, there was no one.

So let’s get started!
(Actually, this is just giving you all another reason to yell at me.) Let’s say the Browns can protect 26 players plus all rookies and second-year men under these circumstances.
That means Jedrick Wills Jr., Jedrick Wills, Jedrick Wills, Jedrick Wills, Je
