Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis, and Star Lotulelei of the Buffalo Bills have been placed in quarantine after being considered close contacts.

NEW YORK’S BUFFALO
— Wide receivers Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis of the Buffalo Bills will miss the next five days of practice after being identified as close contacts of a team trainer who tested positive for COVID-19, according to a league source.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, defensive tackle Star Lotulelei is also under quarantine.
After testing negative for the virus on Tuesday morning, all three players are required to skip practice per to the NFL’s COVID-19 policy.
According to Schefter, the trainer is completely vaccinated.
The news of Beasley and Davis being quarantined was first reported by the New York Daily News.
The NFL’s policy, which severely restricts unvaccinated athletes while allowing vaccinated players to return to near-normalcy, drew criticism from Beasley in June, when he tweeted that he was not vaccinated and would “enjoy my one life like I want.”
If they are close contacts with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, unvaccinated players must stay away from the team for five days; vaccinated players do not have to quarantine if they are close contacts with someone who tests positive for COVID-19.
Unvaccinated players are needed to be checked everyday under the policy controlling preseason and training camp, whereas vaccinated players are only required to be tested every two weeks, according to Beasley.
“It’s self-evident that if a vaxxed or unvaxxed athlete is tested less frequently, the chances of being removed for COVID diminish drastically,” Beasley said.
“In terms of player safety, I’ll just say that we all want to be safe,” Beasley said. Beasley was the Bills’ second-leading receiver in 2020, with 967 yards on 82 catches, both career highs.
During his rookie season last year, Davis had the second-most receiving touchdowns on the team with seven.

Cam Newton was recently required to go through the NFL’s five-day re-entry process for unvaccinated players. Due to a mix-up with the NFL’s new Covid-19 requirements, Newton will not be able to train with the club until Thursday.
Newton, backed by the Patriots, left the New England area on Saturday for a medical appointment and continued to test negative for Covid-19 on a regular basis.
“Because to a misunderstanding about testing taken outside of NFL facilities, and as mandated by the NFL-NFLPA standards, Cam will be subjected to the five-day entrance cadence procedure before returning to the facility,” the Patriots said in a statement.
“Cam will continue to participate virtually in team activities until Thursday, August 26 when he returns to the club.”

In the wake of AJ McCarron’s season-ending injury, Josh Rosen is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons have signed former first-round pick Josh Rosen to replace AJ McCarron and compete for the team’s open backup quarterback position.
McCarron, who joined the Falcons in April, tore his right ACL in the second quarter of Saturday’s preseason game against the Dolphins in Miami, effectively ending his season.
Falcons coach Arthur Smith stated earlier Monday that the team will work out and add a quarterback to compete with Feleipe Franks as Matt Ryan’s backup.
He was candid about the Falcons’ quarterback situation.
“That doesn’t mean that if we add someone this week, we won’t add someone else next week,” Smith added.
“We’ll keep an eye on it,” Smith said, adding that whoever they sign may play in Sunday’s preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
Ryan and the rest of Atlanta’s starters have yet to play in the preseason, but Smith said they’ll approach this week as if everyone is getting ready to play, then analyze the true plan at the end of the week.
It would theoretically include Rosen, but if he were to play against the Browns, he would most likely be working with a limited playbook as he needs to master the terminology and then as much as he can.
“I just believe it’s unfair to throw someone out there and say, ‘Here’s the whole game plan,’ and expect them to be able to operate,” Smith said.
“So, depending on who we sign, you know they’ll be ready to go,” said Rosen, who has played for five NFL teams since being picked 10th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.
In 13 games as a rookie in Phoenix, the former UCLA standout completed 55.2% of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
During Rosen’s rookie season, the Cardinals fired Steve Wilks and chose Kliff Kingsbury as his replacement.
Using the No
The Cardinals selected Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 and then traded Rosen to Miami, where he started three games and completed 53.2% of his passes for 567 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions.
Rosen was released by Miami in September 2020 after the team selected Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 1 overall pick.
He was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 draft, however he ended up on Tampa Bay’s practice squad.
In December, he was signed off the Buccaneers’ practice squad by San Francisco, but he never played in a game.
Trey Lance was picked No. 1 overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Rosen was dismissed last week as the No. 3 overall pick in 2021.

The Baltimore Ravens have won 19 consecutive exhibition games, which is a ‘notable’ record.

No one will be able to persuade John Harbaugh that the Baltimore Ravens’ unprecedented run is meaningless since it came within a non-significant period of the NFL calendar.
The Ravens won their 19th straight preseason game with a 20-3 thrashing of the Carolina Panthers, which unofficially ties an NFL record.
From 1959 through 1962, the Packers under Vince Lombardi won 19 consecutive exhibition games, ending just weeks before Ravens coach John Harbaugh was born.
“All those guys who were a part of it over those years should be proud tonight,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “It’s something only one other club has ever done — the Vince Lombardi Green Bay Packers.”
“I’d say that’s remarkable,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. The Ravens went old-school to join Lombardi and the Packers in summer dominance.
On Saturday night, the Ravens, who were tied at halftime with the Panthers, ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns in the second half at Bank of America Stadium.
After halftime, Baltimore limited the Panthers to 18 total yards.
Since September, the Ravens have not lost a preseason game.
Baltimore’s preseason winning streak began against the Panthers in 2016.
“There are going to be folks who say this doesn’t matter,” Harbaugh said.
“There will be people who look at that and go, ‘Wow, that’s something.’ I believe that everything has purpose in life.” The Ravens’ preseason streak is the longest in at least 26 years, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Elias’ preseason records don’t go back any further than 1995.
But, according to long-time NFL reporter Rick Gosselin, the Packers won 19 straight exhibition games 59 years ago.
The Ravens were unable to replicate that record since their star players are frequently used in the preseason.
Despite missing seven starters, including Pro Bowl quarterback Lamar Jackson, tight end Mark Andrews, offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, and cornerback Marlon Humphrey, Baltimore defeated Carolina on Saturday.
Tyler Huntley, who began at quarterback in place of Jackson, stated, “It’s a fantastic feeling to have because you can see the type of culture we have as a team and company.”
“Every time we foot on the pitch, we want to win.”
It really goes to show how much depth we have as a team to keep winning in the preseason.” Some players were aware of the run going into the game.
In the locker room after the win, Harbaugh briefed his players about the historic preseason triumph.
Ravens safety Chuck Clark recalled, “We embraced and loved that moment.”
“But for now, we’re kind of in the record books,” he says, “but we just have to keep becoming more and better as a team.”

AJ McCarron, the Falcons’ quarterback, was ‘heartbroken’ after suffering a knee injury against the Dolphins.

According to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, Atlanta Falcons backup quarterback AJ McCarron will have an MRI on Sunday after suffering a right knee injury against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
After the game, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith revealed the team is expecting awful news on quarterback Matt Ryan’s injured knee.
“I have a lot of sympathy for AJ McCarron,” Smith remarked.
“It’s tough when something like that happens and it’s non-contact when you know what these men put into it.”
I’m sorry for AJ.
We’ll have an MRI to make sure, but he’s devastated.
“He had rebounded back and he was out there battling for his team and trying to get the extra yards,” said McCarron, who was hurt in the first quarter of the Dolphins’ 37-17 loss on Saturday.
It’s unclear if he was hurt on a seven-yard run or on the next snap’s non-contact play.
Since being chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014, the 30-year-old has bounced around the league.
He played with the Bengals for three seasons before joining the Raiders in 2018 and then the Texans in 2019 and 2020.
McCarron has completed 62.6% of his throws for 1,173 yards and six touchdowns versus three interceptions in 17 outings.
In Saturday’s game, Feleipe Franks took McCarron’s spot.
The Falcons have only three quarterbacks on the roster, so McCarron will have to be replaced this week.
According to Spotrac, signal-callers Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, and Blake Bortles are among those still available.

‘I’m in pain.’ I’m in pain’: Marquel Broughton goes from reluctant recruit to Army junior captain – The Athletic

Marquel Broughton recalls his father, Antonio, introducing him to football at Rhodes Jordan Park when he was six years old, declaring to anyone who would listen that his son would one day play in the NFL. He recalls the feeling of becoming a gridiron leader at the country’s premier leadership institution, Army, and being on the verge of maybe making history.
“I’m in a lot of pain, and I’d say I’m hurting.”
I have discomfort and a lot of built-up tension that makes living difficult for me.
It almost ruined this opportunity for me.” On the surface, becoming the lone junior captain on a Black Knights squad during a pivotal period in the program’s modern history makes perfect sense.
Broughton, a 20-year-old safety, is the type of leader who doesn’t need an introduction off the field. “Marquel is a one-of-a-kind type of guy,” running back A.J. Green said.
According to Howard,
“He’s the definition of a leader, selfless in everything he does.”
“All of the players on the team are great guys and truly have wonderful intents and are standout athletes and leaders wherever they come from, but Marquel just rises above them,” says the coach.

Preview, team news, and predictions for the New York Giants vs. Cleveland Browns game on August 22nd, 2021.

The New York Giants have endured a grueling training camp, which has already resulted in two brawls.
One was against their own offense and defense, which left starting quarterback Daniel Jones at the bottom of the standings.
Joe Judge, the head coach of the New York Giants, made the entire team run as if they were in training to be Navy SEALs.
The second incident occurred on Friday, when New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard and Cleveland Browns cornerback Troy Hill threw punches at each other during a joint practice ahead of their preseason matchup in Week 2.
New York may struggle in their upcoming game based on joint practices.
Cleveland produced a scoring drive during 11-on-11 drills, while the Giants had a quick three-and-out.
After today’s joint practices, #Giants WR Sterling Shepard and #Browns CB Troy Hill squared up and were ready to throw punches.
John Ross appears to have stepped in and gotten Shepard out of there.
This is the final few seconds.

Cleveland Browns 27-17 Cleveland Browns The Browns are 4.5-point favorites at -200 to win the game.
They have a chance to win by at least ten points.
After leading the Browns in tackles and tackles for loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars (8 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack), rookie LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could be the game’s MVP.

When they sort out the bottom of their WR depth chart in the second half, the New York Giants are expected to throw the ball more.

Floyd Reese, the General Manager of the Tennessee Titans’ Super Bowl squad, died at the age of 73.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) —
— Floyd Reese, the general manager who put together the Titans’ lone Super Bowl roster, passed away on Saturday.
His demise was revealed to the squad by his family.
According to a social media post from ESPN 102.5 The Game, where Reese worked until mid-December, Reese battled cancer and was with his family when he died.
Reese spent 21 years with the Oilers-Titans as a coach and administrator, and he is the franchise’s all-time winningest general manager.
“As general manager, he constructed a club that saw continuous success and guided our franchise through the best and worst of times,” controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said.
“His excellent eye for talent led him to some of our team’s top players in history, which led to some of our greatest accomplishments,” said Reese, who will be enshrined into the team’s Ring of Honor this season.
Eddie George was the Associated Press NFL Rookie of the Year in 1996, followed by Jevon Kearse in 1999, and Vince Young in 2006.
Steve McNair, a co-NFL MVP in 2003, was elevated to No. 1 by him.
Being general manager of the Houston Oilers at the time, he selected the No. 3 overall choice in his second draft.
McNair and George, the 14th overall pick in 1996, were described by Reese as “important building stones.”
His wife, Sally, as well as his children and grandchildren, survive him.
