— Listening to Urban Meyer is all it takes to realize he isn’t your ordinary NFL head coach.
Meyer’s Jaguars training camp practices simply sound different. Consider the dramatic pre-practice speeches, which are sometimes delivered by an assistant coach but are frequently delivered by Meyer himself.
Or consider Meyer’s recent post-stretch speech, which lasted more than five minutes following a particularly intense workout.
Then there are the daily practice reports from Meyer’s chief of staff, Fernando Lovo, which are broadcast on the field over speakers. Meyer hosted his first Winner-Loser day of camp in early August, when every competitive drill was scored individually or for the offense or defense.
Lovo not only announced the winners of each drill, but he also counted down the seconds of each phase and gave instructions to the players on what would happen next.
The Ohio State and University of Florida customs included having a master of ceremonies.
It’s rare for the NFL, where most workouts are a cacophony of music, whistles, and artificial crowd noise. Meyers’ practices are also unique, especially if you follow the former college coach from drill to drill.While it’s not uncommon for a head coach to get hands-on with players to teach a technique, only in Jacksonville will you hear the head coach.
Meyer’s success in his first NFL job, though, will most likely be determined by how well he integrates the habits and motivational techniques he employed to help Florida and Ohio State become national champions with the realities of teaching professional athletes.

To attend college football games, the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers will require vaccination documentation or a negative COVID-19 test.

OREGON, EUGENE
— Oregon and Oregon State were the first Power 5 schools to declare that persons above the age of 12 will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to attend football games.
The decision was taken with public health authorities and “peer institutions in the state,” according to Oregon’s release on Friday. The negative test result must be from within three days of the event.
The mandate takes effect on Monday, ending a week in which state officials warned of fast filling hospitals as daily recorded cases hit new highs.
Several Pac-12 colleges have mandated that students and employees get vaccinated or request for an exemption.
On September 1, the Oregon football team will kick off its season at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, which has a capacity of 54,000.
Fresno State was defeated by a score of 4 to 1.

Hawaii is favored by 11 points.

The Atlanta Falcons have become the first team in the NFL to be fully immunized against Covid.

The Atlanta Falcons are the first NFL team to declare that all of their players have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
After coming into close contact with a positive case, players might stop completing daily testing, donning masks, and going into self-isolation because to their immunization status.
“On July 23, the Falcons reached a vaccination rate of 92 percent, ensuring that every player on the squad is protected against COVID-19.”
According to a statement on the team’s website, “each player will now experience the benefits of being able to work out and eat together.”
The news came about a month after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced teams would be forced to forfeit games if they were unable to play due to Covid outbreaks and would not be compensated for games missed due to unvaccinated players.
“As we learned last year, if we maintain a solid commitment to adhering to our health and safety rules and making necessary adjustments in reaction to changing situations, we can play a full season,” he wrote in the memo.
According to NBC Sports, all 32 NFL clubs have a vaccination percentage of at least 75%, with 15 teams reaching 95%.
97.1 percent of gamers had received at least one immunization since the last survey on August 11th.
Georgia has fully immunized 39 percent of its population, one of the lowest rates in the country, according to data.
The state is currently facing daily increases of over 5,700 cases.
Governor Brian Kemp has promised to invest $125 million in financing to help the state’s overburdened hospitals.

The Arizona Cardinals are the first NFL team to reveal intentions for a stadium-based retail sportsbook.

Proposals are in the works to construct a retail sportsbook at an NFL facility.
The Arizona Cardinals and Gila River Hotels & Casinos announced a deal on Monday that will offer BetMGM access to the state’s online sports betting market, which is expected to launch by the start of the 2021 NFL season.
The arrangement includes the construction of a retail sportsbook at Cardinals’ home stadium, State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
According to a press statement regarding the new relationship, the Cardinals are the first NFL team to declare plans to add a retail sportsbook to their stadium, which will open before the 2022 season.
Professional sports stadiums are permitted to provide sports betting in Arizona, Illinois, and the District of Columbia.
The Phoenix Suns announced earlier this year that they would be placing a retail sportsbook in their arena as part of their relationship with FanDuel.
In 2020, the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and Washington Mystics inaugurated a retail sportsbook at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The Chicago Cubs’ Wrigley Field just got authority to develop a two-story sportsbook on the property.
The statement by the Cardinals is part of the NFL’s shift toward sports betting.
For decades, the league has been an outspoken opponent of legalized sports betting, fighting a nearly six-year legal war with the state of New Jersey to prevent regulated betting from spreading outside of Nevada.

The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, which had limited legal sports betting to largely Nevada, was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

The Bengals and Sam Hubbard have agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract, according to a source.

A source told The Athletic on Sunday that the Cincinnati Bengals and defensive end Sam Hubbard have reached an agreement on a four-year, $40 million contract extension.
The news was initially reported by ESPN.
Hubbard, who was 26 years old at the time, was about to enter the final year of his rookie deal.
He was a third-round choice out of Ohio State in 2018, and in three NFL seasons, he has started 28 of 44 games.
Hubbard got two sacks, 11 quarterback hits, and three pass breakups in 13 games last season, after averaging 14.5 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and five pass breakups in his previous two seasons.

Three Buckeyes must stand up to win the Big Ten in 2021, according to Ohio State football.

These three players will need to have breakout seasons if Ohio State football is to repeat as Big Ten champions and make the College Football Playoff.
Heading into the 2021-2022 college football season, Ohio State will hide no secrets from anyone.
They’re going to be fantastic.
Yet, as with any power football program, returning a experienced team is rare.
The majority of the years are spent reloading and developing the next generation of NFL stars while striving to win championships.
This season, the Buckeyes will be in that situation.
At both quarterback and running back, they’ll have to replace important players from last season’s national championship run.
They’ll also have to replace a lot of key players on defense, with only five starters returning from last season.
So, who will have to step up if the Buckeyes are to maintain their domination in the Big Ten and capture their fifth straight conference championship?
After a below-average defensive season last year, Ohio State hopes to see key defensive players improve this year.
Sevyn Banks will be the next man up for an Ohio State secondary that seemed to have a player in the NFL every year.
Shaun Wade may not have had his best year for the Buckeyes last season, but he is off to the NFL, and it is now Bankss’ chance to take over a secondary that struggled last year.
Last season, Ohio State allowed an average of 303.6 passing yards per game, which ranked them No. 1 in the nation.
There are 122 FBS teams in the country, out of a total of 130.
The secondary had a rough season, and it showed in their final game of the season, a national championship game versus Alabama.
Mac Jones, the Crimson Tide’s quarterback, completed 36 of 46 passes for 464 yards and three touchdowns.
DeVontae Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner, caught 12 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns, the majority of which came in the first half.
It wasn’t a pleasant sight for the Buckeyes, especially for former secondary coach Kerry Coombs, who is now the defensive coordinator.
Yet, it revealed a clear need for improvement, which is exactly what Sevyn Banks and the Buckeyes will aim for coming season.
Banks will be the team’s starting cornerback, replacing players like Jeffery Okudah, Marshal Lattimore, and Denzel Ward.
It will take a collective effort for this secondary to succeed, but it will all start with him and how he defends the opposing team’s greatest receiver.
