According to reports, the Patriots are dissatisfied with Cam Newton’s handling of the COVID process.

Due to a breach of COVID-19 guidelines, Cam Newton will miss what many perceive to be vital practice time this week, and there are apparently some people within the New England Patriots organization who aren’t thrilled with the former NFL MVP.
Newton will be suspended for five days, according to the Patriots, due to a “misunderstanding” with the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols.
On Saturday, the quarterback was away from the squad for club-approved medical care, but he failed to adhere to established testing protocols.
Newton, who is unvaccinated, missed a day of testing despite the fact that he was tested outside of the Patriots’ facilities and came up negative.
Unvaccinated players must undergo daily testing at an NFL-approved facility.
According to NFL Network’s Michael Giardi, the Patriots are frustrated with Newton’s predicament internally.
Newton’s absence, according to one “key” member of the organization, will open the door for rookie Mac Jones to earn the starting quarterback job.

Carl Lawson is out for the season after suffering an Achilles tear, which is a significant setback for the Jets.

The New York Jets were given a major setback on Wednesday when defensive end Carl Lawson tore his Achilles tendon.
He is now projected to miss the whole 2021 NFL season, according to several publications.
The MRI revealed that #Jets pass-rusher Carl Lawson had torn his Achilles tendon.
After being one of their finest players in camp, he’s gone for the season.
It was a devastating blow.
Lawson signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Jets in March and was anticipated to play a key role in the team’s overhauled defense this season. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 19, 2021
The Jets have been dealt a major blow by Lawson’s injury. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Carl Lawson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and the Auburn alumni has shown to be a steal for the team.
Lawson had an outstanding debut season, recording 8.5 sacks and being named to the PFWA’s All-Rookie team.
In 2018, he experienced a sophomore slump, appearing in only seven games and registering only one sack.
But he bounced back in a big way, and he’s been a consistent contributor for the past two elections.
In the last two years, Lawson has racked up 11.5 sacks.
Lawson’s ability to get to opposing quarterbacks is unrivaled.
In 2019, he hit 22 quarterbacks, and he had 32 last year, which was the most in the league.
Lawson was a great fan of the Jets, especially new head coach Robert Saleh, who made him a significant offer to be the team’s defensive lynchpin this summer.
“If you look at Carl and just look at a piece of paper, he doesn’t check a single box in terms of height, length, size,” Saleh said of Lawson earlier in training camp.
Nevertheless, when you watch the footage, all he does is win over and over again.
You can never have too many guys in the NFL who just win play after play.
That’s why he’s a good fit.
He can be used in any scenario.
He’s a player that lines up and dominates one-on-one, which is especially important in money circumstances when you need someone to make an impact on the game.” Lawson had a great training camp and appeared to be on his way to having a breakout year.
Yet, his tragic injury will not only throw the Jets’ plans into disarray, but it may also have an impact on the defensive end’s career.
I can tell you from personal experience that if you tore your Achilles tendon, you’ll know almost instantly.
The Jets will now attempt to trade for a replacement or investigate the free agency market for a short-term remedy to their pass rush problem. — Damien Woody (@damienwoody) August 19, 2021 I’m hoping for positive news for Carl Lawson, but this is tough considering the type of camp he was having #Jets — Damien Woody (@damienwoody) August 19, 2021

Falcons eliminated two unvaccinated players to reach a 100% COVID-19 vaccination percentage, according to reports.

The Atlanta Falcons made waves on Monday when they announced that all of their players have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk provided an update on the subject on Thursday.
According to Florio, the Falcons eliminated two unvaccinated players as part of their recent roster cutting, bringing the team’s immunization percentage to 100%.
Since the spring, both the NFL and the NFL Players Association have stated that players cannot be forced to acquire coronavirus vaccines in order to preserve their roster positions, but it has been generally assumed for months that so-called “fringe” or “bubble” players may be cut during training camp and/or the preseason if they refused to get one of the available and safe vaccines.

Aldon Smith, a defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks, has been released, according to a source.

According to ESPN, the Seattle Seahawks have released defensive end Aldon Smith.
Smith was arrested on a second-degree violence charge in April, two days after signing with the Seahawks, after allegedly choking a guy unconscious during an altercation that started inside a New Orleans coffee shop.
Smith approached the man about marital troubles the man was having with one of Smith’s relatives, according to the police report obtained by WWL-TV.
When Smith spoke with the media earlier this month, he said he couldn’t comment on the case because he had signed a one-year, $1.127 million contract with the Seahawks with $137,500 guaranteed.
Smith’s arrest in Louisiana was the latest in a series of run-ins with the law, which includes repeated DUI arrests and a domestic violence accusation.
Smith was suspended by the NFL for parts of the 2014 and 2015 seasons, as well as from 2016 through 2019, for violating the league’s personal conduct and substance abuse regulations.
Smith, 31, made his NFL comeback last season with the Dallas Cowboys, recording five sacks in 16 games, three of which came against Seattle and all of which came in the first half of the season.
Smith has 52.5 sacks in five seasons after setting an NFL record with 33.5 sacks in his first two seasons.
With veterans Carlos Dunlap, Benson Mayowa, and Kerry Hyder, as well as promising young players like Darrell Taylor, Alton Robinson, and L.J. Smith, the Seahawks have a strong edge rusher corps.
NFL Network was the first to break the news of Smith’s release.
Dan Graziano of ESPN and Brady Henderson of ESPN contributed to this article.

According to reports, 18 NFL teams have vaccinated at least 90% of their players against COVID-19.

On the same day that allegations broke that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time since last fall, there is some good news in the league’s fight to continue playing despite the growing pandemic.
According to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, 18 NFL clubs have at least 90% of their players vaccinated against COVID-19, up from 14 teams the day before.
In addition, 86.9% of players in the league have had at least one vaccination shot.
As of Tuesday, that figure stood at 85%.
The league previously warned teams that if a club achieves an 85% vaccination rate among players, several health and safety standards can be relaxed.
The NFL and the NFL Players Association are not requiring players to get vaccinated in order to participate in the upcoming season, but the NFL has threatened that if teams were unable to play during a week due to a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated individuals, they would be forced to forfeit.
The league has also stated that game checks for contests that were not played due to coronavirus-related difficulties could be withheld, and that unvaccinated players could be punished each time they breach COVID-19 protocols.
In summary, when Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer indicated last month that unvaccinated players will “have a harder time” from the start of training camp through the end of the season, he wasn’t kidding.

According to reports, the NFL will punish players who refuse to wear a tracking device or submit to COVID-19 testing.

The NFL’s most contentious topic is likely to have an even bigger impact on players: their money.
According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the league sent teams a document outlining COVID-19 protocols for training camp and the preseason on Tuesday.
According to the report, athletes who refuse to wear a tracking device that can identify whether they’ve gone to banned regions outside team facilities would be fined $14,650, regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated.
Pelissero also stated that players who refuse to get tested for viruses will be fined $50,000.
According to a source, the NFL tonight handed teams amended training camp and preseason COVID protocols, which include penalties for any player who refuses to wear a tracking device ($14,650) or submit to mandated viral testing ($50,000) regardless of vaccination status.
MORE: NFL’s new COVID-19 standards have major repercussions for teams with the greatest and lowest vaccination rates Pelissero also listed other league mandates in the document.
Inactive athletes who are unvaccinated must wear masks during lifts, walkthroughs, and practice, “unless when doing so would interfere with their ability to engage in athletic activity.”
The NFL Players Association and the league have both approved the COVID-19 standards, according to Pelissero.
This isn’t the first time the league has taken a firm position on etiquette violations.
It notified clubs on Thursday that if a game is postponed due to an outbreak among unvaccinated players and cannot be rescheduled within the league’s 18-week regular season, the team with the outbreak forfeits the game and neither team’s players get paid.
The NFL doesn’t appear to be interested in dealing with the huge logistical challenges it experienced last year, when the COVID-19 outbreak prompted the postponing – but not cancellation – of games.
Vaccination has been a source of contention among players and coaching staffs alike.
“I guess that’s HIPAA,” Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said Friday when asked if he got vaccinated. The Vikings fired offensive line coach Rick Dennison after he refused to get the vaccine, though he will stay with the team as a senior offensive adviser.
It will be fascinating to watch if the NFL’s strategy of going after players’ wallets results in increased vaccination rates.

Texans want to deal Deshaun Watson for high draft picks, according to speculations.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Texans are eager to move Deshaun Watson and have been listening to trade offers “for quite some time.”
According to the source, the Texans are hoping for at least three first-round picks in exchange for Watson.
Houston is seeking a combination of five high draft picks and starting-caliber players, according to ESPN.
According to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, the Texans do not believe they have received a “real offer.”
Watson requested a trade from the team in January, and barely two months later, the first of 23 lawsuits alleging sexual assault and inappropriate behavior were filed against him.
Despite the fact that he is not facing criminal charges, the NFL may punish him for the civil claims by suspending him.
There has been no sign that the Texans were willing to part with Watson until recently.
Watson arrived in training camp on Sunday, as first reported by NFL Network, to escape a $50,000 daily fee, according to ESPN.
His attitude on a trade, though, has not changed, and he restated his wish when he arrived at camp.
To be transferred to another team, the Texans quarterback would have to renounce his no-trade provision.

Despite a trade request and assault claims, Deshaun Watson expects to report to the Houston Texans training camp.

Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Houston Texans, will report to training camp on Sunday, according to sources.
Watson would have been fined $50,000 each day if he hadn’t reported.
Teams may no longer pardon fines under the new collective bargaining agreement.
Watson is reporting to camp simply to avoid the fines, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder, and his desire to be transferred remains unchanged.
Watson’s intention to report to camp, originally reported by NFL Network on Sunday, follows an offseason in which he sought to be traded in January after the Texans appointed Nick Caserio as general manager.
Watson was hit with the first of 23 legal claims less than two months later.
The Texans quarterback is facing 22 lawsuits alleging sexual assault and inappropriate behavior.
Since the complaints were filed, new head coach David Culley has mostly avoided discussing Watson’s legal predicament, citing a statement from Texans ownership to season-ticket holders in April that stated, “We want to assure you that we take these claims very seriously.” The Texans also have three other quarterbacks on their roster: Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills, and Jeff Driskel.
