During the Jaguars’ preseason game against the Saints, head coach Urban Meyer took a lot of heat for keeping quarterback Trevor Lawrence in harm’s way.
When the Jaguars used the No. 1 overall pick,
They intended to get a generational quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick on Trevor Lawrence.
The most difficult thing would be getting him through his rookie season without injury.
Unfortunately for Jaguars fans, the preseason has already demonstrated Lawrence’s vulnerability.
At this rate, he might not even make it through the season.
Lawrence was thrown around during Monday’s preseason game against the Saints.

While battling to get the offense rolling, he went 14-of-23 for 113 yards.
While Trevor Lawrence’s performance was subpar, NFL Twitter was more concerned about his health if head coach Urban Meyer insisted on keeping him in the game.

I appreciate the effort, but this is the last thing Urban Meyer wants Trevor Lawrence doing in a preseason game pic.twitter.com/he7Qmvc6mE — Ethan Cadeaux (@Ethan_Cadeaux) August 24, 2021
He shouldn’t expect anything less than 100% from his young quarterback.
Meyer must recognize that he lacks a functional offensive line capable of protecting his most important weapon.

Given the Jaguars’ roster, it’s possible that he’d be better off not being in the firing line every week.
The former Clemson Tiger will play one more preseason game against the Cowboys to acclimate to the NFL level.
It will become much more real when the Jaguars face the Texans to start the season.
