In the Panthers’ preseason loss to the Ravens, Will Grier takes a step forward while Joey Slye takes a step back.

After Panthers coach Matt Rhule pulled Darnold after one disappointing series, Grier came on and played his finest football since his last year at West Virginia in 2018.
After P.J. Fleck’s injury, the Charlotte native completed 11 of 14 passes for 144 yards and a 109.5 passer rating, making the backup quarterback duel much more exciting.
Walker’s excellent outing against the Indianapolis Colts last week. None of the three quarterbacks were able to find the end zone against the Ravens, who won their 19th consecutive preseason game, tying them with the Vince Lombardi-coached Packers for the NFL record.
As the Panthers remained conservative on offense, Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale went all out with his blitz package, resulting in two sacks on Grier and the only negatives on his night. “They do a lot of different stuff, perhaps more exotic than Ive ever seen in the preseason,” Martindale said.
They don’t really give you the test answers.
They’ll attack from afar.
“That doesn’t appear to be particularly sound,” Grier explained. “It’s just the way they play.”
It is our responsibility to pick it up.
If they beat us, we’ll have to throw a lot of punches.
I believe we did a good job with some of the plays.
Then there are some plays that we need to improve on.
