‘Justin Fields is really special,’ LeBron James said of the Bears quarterback following his outstanding NFL debut.

In the Chicago Bears’ 20-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins, NBA superstar LeBron James was blown away by rookie Justin Fields’ outstanding performance in his NFL preseason debut.
On Twitter, the five-time NBA champion described Fields as “amazing.”
Justin Fields is a ONE-OF-A-KIND GUY!!
Keep going young, LeBron James (@KingJames) August 14, 2021 Justin Fields impresses in debut For the Bears, incumbent starter Andy Dalton opened the game and played the first quarter before being substituted by Fields for the second and third quarters.
The rookie quarterback got off to a shaky start, throwing three interceptions in his first three possessions.
During the third quarter, he almost threw an interception and then mishandled the ball, only to recover it himself.
The rookie guided the offense down the field on his fourth and final drive of the quarter, setting up a field-goal try that helped the Bears get on the board.
On the first drive of the third quarter, Fields looked much more collected, throwing some assured passes before sprinting for an eight-yard touchdown.
As the game progressed, the rookie quarterback gained confidence and began to show why the Bears selected him first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.
He marched down the field with the team on his penultimate drive and delivered a 30-yard touchdown pass to put the Bears ahead.
Fields was ejected from the game after the Bears’ final third-quarter drive ended in a three-and-out.
Fields rushed for 33 yards on five attempts and completed 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 142 yards.
He scored both of the Bears’ touchdowns during the contest.
While head coach Matt Nagy has designated Andy Dalton as the Bears’ starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams, Fields’ performance likely force him to reconsider that choice.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Fields take the Bears’ first snap against the Rams at SoFi Stadium on September 12th, if he can perform as well and sound as confident as he did today.

Trey Lance of the 49ers delivers an 80-yard touchdown pass in his preseason debut against the Chiefs.

On the second series of his preseason debut against the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers rookie Trey Lance threw an 80-yard touchdown throw.
Lance, who took over after Jimmy Garoppolo was benched for one series, went three-and-out on his first possession.
Lance rolled left to start the second drive on the 49ers’ 20-yard line before lofting a deep pass down the center of the field to Trent Sherfield, who caught it inside the Chiefs’ 45-yard line and ran the rest of the way for the touchdown.
He completed 5-of-14 passes for 128 yards in his debut.
Lance was sacked four times during his career.
Lance was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the 49ers.
North Dakota State is the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft in 2021.
On his lone drive, Garoppolo completed all three of his pass attempts for 26 yards and a punt.

Former backup quarterback Jake Fromm leads the Buffalo Bills to a game-winning drive in his NFL debut.

DETROIT — Buffalo Bills quarterback Jake Fromm took a snap with an opponent team on the other side of the line of scrimmage for the first time in his brief NFL career.
In Buffalo’s 16-15 triumph over the Detroit Lions on Friday, the 2020 fifth-round pick led a 74-yard touchdown drive that finished with Tyler Bass’ game-winning field goal.
During that last drive, Fromm completed 8-of-13 passes for 65 yards, including a 42-yard completion to rookie Marquez Stevenson on 4th-and-10.
With the game on the line, the Georgia product didn’t shrink after spending his rookie season as the Bills’ backup quarterback.
“He’s been there before,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said, referring to Fromm’s time at Georgia.
“And he simply doesn’t seem fazed in these scenarios,” he said. Buffalo drafted him 167th overall in 2020, and he spent training camp doing regular quarterback duties before making the final 53-man roster behind Josh Allen and Matt Barkley.
From then, his daily routine was anything but ordinary; the Bills designated Fromm as their emergency quarterback, which meant he practiced separately from the rest of the team and stayed socially isolated from his colleagues at their Orchard Park facility.
“That was certainly a fascinating five to six months for me.”
“I’ve never experienced anything like that,” Fromm explained.
“It was unquestionably difficult and lonely at times, but I kept returning to my faith and my family.”
And knowing I’d be seeing them soon and that, perhaps, it’d all be worth it one day
“I wanted to be prepared, so I came to work every day and said, ‘Hey, let’s go, be prepared.'”
“This is where I’m at, this is where my feet are at, let’s go give it 100% and give it my all,” Fromm said, crediting the Bills’ practices at Highmark Stadium for helping him acclimatize to the NFL’s speed of play.
His little involvement left an impression on his teammates, particularly quarterback Davis Webb, who praised Fromm’s ability to shake off a pair of sacks earlier in the game and rebound when it meant the most.
“It was exciting to see Jake get in there and send that deep ball to Speedy, especially because it was both of their first games in the NFL,” Webb said.
“A couple of plays aren’t always going to go your way.”
I wouldn’t put that on Jake for the first couple of drives; there are a lot of factors to consider.
But I’ll put Jake on because he came through for us.” The Bills play the Bears in their second preseason game next week in Chicago.
